Collection Scope

From the Collection:

SERIES I: Architectural Practice (1953-1978) contains some correspondence, building data and dedication pamphlets, primarily for Concordia Senior College, as well as a sketch for a site plan.

SERIES II: Correspondence (1941-1987) consists of five folders of general correspondence to and from Paulsen, arranged alphabetically, primarily dealing with his career as an architect, his speaking engagements and awards he won. Some of the correspondence relates to his tenure at the Academy and his decision to resign.

SERIES III: Teaching encompasses his careers at the Cranbrook Academy of Art (1966-1970) and the University of Michigan (1976-1990). This series makes up the bulk of the collection. Most of the folders contain his lectures, assignments, and select student works.

SERIES IV: Speeches (1961-1980) consists of speeches typed and handwritten by Paulsen as well as a speech given by E.A. Jones on Paulsen's resignation.

SERIES V: Professional Documents (1936-1985) encompasses all of Paulsen's professionally related papers, press releases, and awards.

SERIES VI: Personal Documents (1947-1986) contains notes made on books, in books, and a log of his trip to Sweden, as well as Glen's keepsakes and book proposal (unfinished).

SERIES VII: Portfolio (1936-1969) consists of four photo albums representing a portfolio of the professional work of Glen Paulsen.

SERIES VIII: Oversize (1942-1966) contains awards and diplomas, Glen Paulsen and Associates brochures, a news clippings scrapbook and Brandeis University planning brochures.

SERIES IX: Photographs contains three envelopes of pictures. The projects in the third envelope relates primarily to Concordia Senior College, the Milwaukee War Memorial and the Gordon Science Hall at Cranbrook School.

SERIES X: Slides (1938-1980) consists of four (4) envelopes of slides. All of the slides pertain to architectural practice.

SERIES XI: Negatives contains several paintings that Paulsen did while on his 1947-8 trip to Europe.

SERIES XII: Architectural drawings (1940-1988) for projects both built and unbuilt.
