This collection contains items related to Eero Saarinen & Associates and projects undertaken by that firm. It consists primarily of published articles and project presentation portfolios. Of particular note is an original sketch of the University of Michigan by Eero Saarinen.

History
Maurice B. Allen was born 20 Mar 1926 in Lansing, Michigan and attended Western Michigan University before transferring to Notre Dame University in order to study engineering and naval science. He enlisted in the US Navy and served on a Navy destroyer in the Pacific Fleet. Allen ultimately graduated with a Bachelors in Architecture from the University of Michigan in 1950.
Upon graduation, Allen worked briefly as a draughtsman and designer for Smith, Hinchman & Grylls before working for Eero Saarinen & Associates from 1952-1962. Significant projects include the General Motors Technical Center (Warren, MI), Yale University: Stiles and Morse Colleges and the Ingalls Hockey Rink (New Canaan, CT), Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (New York), North Christian Church (Columbus, IN), and the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, Norway.
In 1962, Allen joined Tarapata-MacMahon Associates, Inc (TMP) as a principal and Vice President of Design and Planning. He was a member of the Environmental Arts Advisory Panel of the Michigan Council for the Arts, and taught design at the University of Michigan College of Architecture and Urban Planning. He served on the AIA National Architecture for the Arts & Recreation Task Force and the AIA National Committee on Architecture for Justice. In 1983, he was honored by the College of Fellows of the AIA for his outstanding contributions to the field of architecture. In 1995, he received a Gold Medal from the Detroit Chapter, AIA.
Maurice married Nancy Huff Allen in 1951and they had three children. He died 1 Nov 2008 in Birmingham, Michigan.
