Collection Scope From the Collection:

The bulk of the collection consists of Ms. Corbett’s research of Ellen Scripps Booth and Nellie Beveridge Gray. Of particular note are the transcripts of the oral histories performed by Ms. Corbett of Ms. Gray between 1984 and 1989. Ms. Gray provides insight into both Cranbrook and the Booth family in the last years of George and Ellen Booth’s lives.

Abstract Virginia Kingswood Booth Vogel was the only daughter of Ralph Harman Booth and Myrtle Mary Batterman Booth. Ralph Harman Booth was a cofounder of Booth Newspapers and a brother of George Gough Booth, founder of Cranbrook. As President of the Detroit Museum of Art and of the Detroit Arts Commission, Booth was responsible for the creation of the Detroit Institute of Arts, and served as the Institute's director as well as a member of its board of directors.
