Samuel H. Gottscho, undated
Collection Scope
The collection contains important photographic documentation of Christ Church Cranbrook and its art during its earliest years, as collected by its architect, Oscar Murray. Views of the church show that all of the prints are from the 1920s when the church was first constructed and decorated. Notable are images of sculptures by Alois Lang before they were set in place in the reredos of St. Paul's Chapel, as well as interior and exterior views, mounted on board, by photographer, Peter Nyholm. There are several reproductions of early presentation drawings by Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue Associates as well as photographs by Samuel H. Gottscho which were used by the Mayer, Murray, and Phillip architectural firm. Some photographs in the collection indicate that they were used by the firm in exhibitions. Two related clippings from Architectural Record and The Architec are included.
