The records were created and maintained by Diane Shane Stupka, the assistant to the President of the Cranbrook Educational Community (CEC) from 1981 to 1987. The collection contains records regarding the Board of Trustees and their committees, the different divisions of the CEC and their committees, and other groups related to Cranbrook. Some items from the Cranbrook Foundation era (1927-73) are included, but the majority of the collection deals with the reorganization of the Cranbrook Foundation into the CEC and related governance and administrative issues from 1973 until 1988. The collection subsequently covers the presidential terms of: Arthur Kiendl (June 6, 1973 - December 4, 1978); Edward Lerchen (acting president -December 4, 1978 - June, 17 1980); Dan M. Martin (June 17, 1980 - February 6, 1984); and Lillian Bauder (acting president - February 6, 1984, president October 31, 1984 - ). Included are correspondence, media and public relations materials, meeting minutes, and reports and studies dealing with the CEC.
The Cranbrook Educational Community: Assistant to the President Records are divided into three series: Board of Trustees (Boxes 1-3), CEC Divisions (Boxes 3-4), and General Information (Boxes 5-7). Each series is organized to reflect the different committees or groups appropriate to particular CEC divisions. Folder headings are based mainly on the folder heading divisions used by Diane Shane Stupka.
